Paul Douglas (PCL Constructors) on demand for commodities and labour market shortages
Paul Douglas, President and CEO of PCL Constructors, spoke to Alberta Venture Magazine this month about the challenges facing the provincial and federal governments. In his view, the biggest challenge facing Alberta over the next few years will be to manage its anticipated growth. Two trends in particular stand out: the increasing global demand for commodities and the ever-tighter supply in Canada of skilled and unskilled workers and professionals. Mr. Douglas cautions governments not to cut back funding for apprenticeships and post-secondary education. Canada should also be stepping up its efforts to recruit foreign workers and putting in place the programs and infrastructure that are needed to support new Canadians. Watch the video here.
