Innovation and Competitiveness

The fiscal framework by itself has a powerful impact on the pace of innovation and the competitiveness of Canadian enterprises by influencing what it makes sense for companies and individuals to do. But a much broader range of policies affects the ability of Canadian companies to innovate and compete in the global marketplace.

The onset of global recession has made it more important than ever for Canada to pursue a comprehensive competitiveness strategy. The Council strongly supported the June 2008 final report of the Competition Policy Review Panel, and continues to support a competitiveness agenda that includes: reinforcing Canada's superb pool of talent through education, training and immigration; encouraging entrepreneurship; reducing personal and corporate tax rates; fostering research and innovation; investing in public infrastructure; developing smarter regulation; demonstrating leadership on energy and the environment; and strengthening Canada's relationships within North America and globally.
