Energy and the Environment

Environmentally responsible business practices go hand in hand with long-term economic growth and enhanced prosperity. When making public policy choices, it is important for citizens to be fully aware of both the costs and the benefits of measures intended to protect the environment. The Council is strongly committed to the principle of sustainable development and  active in encouraging realistic and effective strategies for addressing global climate change.

If Canadian companies are to be leaders in the development, adoption and export of climate-friendly technologies, climate change goals for Canadian industry must reflect economic and competitive realities and not penalize already-efficient firms with arbitrary targets.

Canada should be a leading proponent of sustainable development internationally, by demonstrating through government policies and corporate actions that economic growth, enhanced living standards and environmental protection can be mutually supportive.
