Statement By The Honourable John Manley On The Appointment of David Johnston As Canada’s Next Governor General

Statement by The Honourable John Manley, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, on today's announcement that David Johnston has been chosen to serve as Canada's next Governor General.

"David Johnston is an exemplary Canadian and a superb choice to be Canada's 28th Governor General.  He is an accomplished legal scholar and constitutional expert, a brilliant university administrator, a tireless champion of research and innovation, and an outstanding public servant.  Those of us who have been privileged to work with him have always admired his integrity, strength of character, perseverance and sense of justice.

"On behalf of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, I would like to congratulate Prime Minister Stephen Harper for this inspired decision.  Equally, I would like to offer my thanks to Her Excellency Michaëlle Jean for her service to the country.  She has been an outstanding voice for Canada over the past five years."
